Sky No Longer the Limit for Digital Magazines

November 20th, 2009

Digital publishing providers have been boasting that sky’s the limit in terms of technical innovation. But apparently sky is no longer the limit as Astronaut Nicole Stott is reading a Texterity magazine in space.

Meredith Corporation in cooperation with its digital provider Texterity (www.texterity.com) has worked with NASA to deliver Stott’s More Magazine subscription to her electronically during her long duration stay aboard the International Space Station.

More, the only lifestyle magazine celebrating confident and successful women over 40, is one of 50 digital publications on Texterity’s consumer magazine portal at www.coverleaf.com where print subscribers receive free digital companions, and where anyone can browse, search, and buy magazines.

Stott was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2000 and has worked technical aspects of station payloads, supported Expedition 10, and has been a station CAPCOM. Aside from serving as a long-duration crew member, she joined astronaut Danny Olivas in the first spacewalk of space shuttle Discovery’s mission. She and Olivas removed two experiments from the hull of the European Columbus module.

Says Patrick Taylor, VP of Publishing Group Communications at Meredith: “We jumped at the chance to help get Nicole her digital copy of More and loved that she has been able to share her journey in space on <a href=”http://www.More.com”More.com. I agree with what our readers have been saying: Stott is an inspiration to all women that big dreams can be achieved.”

Wendy Zingher, Texterity VP of Sales & Marketing agrees. “You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to enjoy digital editions, but we are thrilled that one is! It is very gratifying to all of us at Texterity to be able to provide Nicole with the pleasure of enjoying one of her favorite magazines while in the most exotic of locales.”

Astronaut Stott is blogging from space and her journals are available through www.nasa.gov/station, www.more.com, and at www.texterity.com.

Texterity (www.texterity.com/info-request/) is a privately held company located in Southborough, MA. Texterity converts, maintains, and tracks more than 1,000 digital editions for consumer, trade, and association publishers. Their browser-based Published Web Format can be enjoyed on any computer, iPhone, or iPod touch. Texterity was named a “Top 100” company to watch by E-Content magazine.
