The Art of Friendship

February 12th, 2009

One evening Stephanie Dolgoff realized that all of her friends had moved on to other places and her social life had completely dried up. Rather than succumb to the loneliness she was feeling, Dolgoff set out to make new friendships, and shares some of her successful techniques in The Art of Friendship, from this month’s issue of Ladies’ Home Journal.

Dolgoff acknowledges that it’s harder to make friends in midlife than when you’re younger, but doesn’t let it daunt her. She found that she even enjoyed the freedom and flexibility of being able to choose friends from a more mature perspective. The article makes some great points, like with everyone being so busy these days it can be helpful to use the mutual interests that bring people in contact with each other — projects, classes, causes — as a basis to build up friendships.

All About AMD’s Phenom II Processor

February 11th, 2009

AMD didn’t exactly make a huge splash in the personal computer processor market when it launched its Phenom processor last year — long delays and a serious bug in the released version dampened any market enthusiasm that might have existed for their latest CPU. But according to the latest issue of Maximum PC things are looking a lot better for the Phenom on the second iteration.

Phenom: The Sequel provides an in-depth of review of the new Phenom II processors, and according to the experts at Maximum PC this version looks a lot more appealing. The Phenom II is coming to market on time, and runs faster and cooler than its predecessor (and shipped without any of those pesky TLB bugs). Click on the image below to read Phenom: The Sequel, and don’t miss those pretty processor pictures.

High Tech Bikes Becoming Affordable

February 9th, 2009

The latest issue of Bicycling offers up some tasty high-tech bikes that won’t completely break the bank. Noting that “trickle down technology” is continually bringing higher quality features to lower cost bicycles, the monthly Gear Bike Reviews section looks at several models that are bringing professional features to the masses.

Bicycles like the Giant Defy 1 are examples of this trickle-down technology at work. The Defy 1 offers Giant’s Endurance Positioning frame styling, Shimano 105 components, and hydroformed top and down tubes, giving it a solid and stable ride even at very high speeds.
