The latest issue of FamilyFun has a scrumptious-looking feature on some summer treats that I can’t wait to try. How does Fruit Pizza and Oatmeal Berry Crisp bars sound? There’s several recipes here in Sweet Summer Treats for interesting and delicious ways to get more summer fruit into your kid’s diet. For a more decadent version of the fruit pizza recipe, we’ve been known to make it with a giant sugar cookie base!

It’s always a good idea to have some back-up and safety measures in place around your PC, especially as we keep more and more of the details of our lives on our computers. The latest issue of Maximum PC has a great article on how to protect your PC and data, 9 Ways to Disaster-Proof Your PC. From suggestions like using an off-site backup method (it’s easy to set up these days!) to the latest techniques for avoiding viruses, this article is chock full of good advice for computer users.
If you don’t have a back-up system in place, you should definitely read this and implement one, because I can almost guarantee that at some point you’ll experience a hard-drive failure. Maximum PC is a great resource for the latest info on keeping your home computers safe and up-to-date.

Is your kitchen feeling outdated? If you’ve been thinking about remodeling your kitchen you owe it to yourself to read My Amazing $905 Kitchen Makeover from the latest issue of Ladies’ Home Journal.
HGTV’s Design on a Dime co-host Kristan Cunningham shows how she remade her kitchen for under $1000, and the before and after photos are striking. Our kitchen has been in need of some attention for a long time and I’m going to give several of the ideas in this helpful article a try. I especially liked the way replacing some of the cabinets with open teak shelving lightened up the space.

More Magazine has a helpful feature if you’re trying to spruce up your wardrobe on a budget. 100 Fashion Funds for Under $100 is just what the title says, the editors of More rounded up 100 different fashion accessories and clothing items, all in the under-$100 category.
I really like some of the jewelery and dresses they found. And of course each item is sourced, with the manufacturer and a web site where you can buy it or find out more. This is a great example of the convenience of reading Coverleaf digital editions — when you see an item you like in an article like More’s 100 Fashion Funds for Under $100 you can simply click on the link below the item to instantly find out more or purchase it.

This month’s issue of FamilyFun features an easy recipe that’s appropriate to cook with children (and that they’ll like to eat of course!) for pineapple upside down cupcakes. Offering a delicious introduction to baking, this recipe sounds like a great one to pull out when your little one feels like helping out in the kitchen.

One of my favorite features from FamilyFun (try saying that 5 times fast!) is their Family Tradition section. Each issue a different family and their particular family tradition is profiled. I really liked this month’s family tradition from a New Hampshire family that’s worked exercise into their regular fun family outings. KJ Dell’Antonia and Rob Seelig make it a practice to participate in several runs and bike-a-thons with their whole family every year. This has the benefits of both showing children how to healthy fun outside and to be charitable and help worthy organizations. Bravo!

Each month Runner’s World features a “rave run” of some place around the country that a reader has submitted. This month’s Rave Run is in Orange, Virginia and I think you’ll agree that running in this scenery (and under a rainbow no less!) would certainly be inspiring.

The latest issue of Prevention has an informative article about the best ways to prepare and cook my favorite summer vegetable, corn. It’s Corn Season shows you the easiest ways to peel, shuck, and get the kernels from corn on the cob, along with some tasty corn-based recipes. I’m definitely going to give the Corn Soup recipe a try. And for when you just want to munch on some fresh and crisp corn on the cob, my favorite technique is to bring a large pot of water to a rapid boil, then turn off the heat, drop in your shucked cobs of corn, cover and wait 5 minutes. Perfection every time!
