Is your kitchen feeling outdated? If you’ve been thinking about remodeling your kitchen you owe it to yourself to read My Amazing $905 Kitchen Makeover from the latest issue of Ladies’ Home Journal.
HGTV’s Design on a Dime co-host Kristan Cunningham shows how she remade her kitchen for under $1000, and the before and after photos are striking. Our kitchen has been in need of some attention for a long time and I’m going to give several of the ideas in this helpful article a try. I especially liked the way replacing some of the cabinets with open teak shelving lightened up the space.

Is there $3,000 hiding in your Attic? is an article from the latest issue of Ladies’ Home Journal that could be a very valuable read. Just about everyone has boxes of old momentos and things that seemed too good to throw out hiding somewhere in there house, and as this article points out in today’s globally connected marketplace, it’s easier than ever to realize the old adage that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The key is in knowing how to sell your old items. With some hot tips about items that might be worth more than you’d expect and some general advice about using online services like eBay to sell your stuff, this article is well worth the read!

I find that having some hanging house plants around the house and porch really adds a nice feel to our place so I was especially excited to find this article about good plants to use in hanging situations in the latest issue of Horticulture. It turns out there are lots of great options for hanging plants beyond the traditional fuchsias and begonias, and Hanging in the Hood presents a lot of information, some great suggestions, and of course the spectacular photos we’ve come to expect from Horticulture for hanging plant options.
I didn’t know that bidens or flowering maples worked well as hangers, but they sure do. I’m going armed with this article next time I go to the nursery so we can incorporate some of these suggestions into our hanging plant mix.

Looking for some inexpensive ways to spruce up your country home this season? The latest issue of Country Home has some nice suggestions. Ten Under $50 features 10 items that would be a welcome addition to anyone’s cozy house, especially those with a country flair. I found several gift ideas in this article. For example, I think my wife would really like the black apple ladder for creatively storing things like hand towels.
If you’ve been wanting to add some country flair to your home without breaking the bank, definitely check out this article.

Weekend Update from the latest issue of Family Circle proves that if you have two days and some creativity you can spruce up your home and furniture for the cost of some basic art supplies. Not being an especially creative person myself, I can’t imagine how someone could paint such delicate designs on a simple white table as shown in the article, but I did get lots of ideas for improvements to my furniture that I would be comfortable making on my own.
I really liked the effect achieved by painting broad stripes on an existing light-colored carpet. I also liked the way a dresser looked with different colored drawers, and these are changes I can do in a weekend.
