Weekend Getaway - to Chicago!

September 4th, 2009

Want an inexpensive, but still action packed family getaway to the Windy City?  The key - plan ahead, but agree to be spontaneous and go with the flow at the same time.  Pick sightseeing adventures that you can get to on foot, so you can save on cab fares.  Eat (and shop!) where the locals do - that always guarantees it’s cheaper, since they aren’t marking up their prices for tourists.  Try different types of restaurants - not necessarily trendy or expensive - so you can taste the different flavors of the area without having to spend a ton - or even try our the expensive restaurants for lunch - you’ll eat less and spend less as well!  Check out this article, Saving in the City, for more travel tips in Chicago.

August 28th, 2009

Looking for a quick family getaway?  Well, look no further than Portland, Maine.  With it’s small town feel and big city attractions, this majestic seaport is a great place to go for a day.  Start your morning off right with a quick breakfast from Standard Baking, Co., where you can find scones, freshly baked breads, and sticky buns.  There’s plenty of stuff to do throughout the day - take a stroll on the Easter Promenade, visit the Children’s Museum and Theater of Maine, and of course, stop for an ice cream treat at Beals Old Fashioned Ice Cream before heading home.  For more information, check out this Family Getaway article and Spend a Day in Portland, Maine.
